Summary
Alan Rorie is a multidisciplinary designer, scientist, and entrepreneur based in San Francisco who blends neuroscience-driven research with art and fabrication. With a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Stanford and postdoctoral work at the Exploratorium, he leads projects at the intersection of science, education, and art through Almost Scientific, a collaboration he founded to bridge scientists and artists. He also runs Hero Design, a design-and-build studio that employs plasma, lasers, robotics, water-jetting, 3-D printing and traditional techniques to scale objects from one-off pieces to production runs. His work as an artist and researcher has been shown at venues from The Exploratorium to Burning Man, and his writings appear in Nature, Wired, Science, and PLoS. Currently a consultant at Kicker Studio, he brings a rigorous, research-informed perspective to design challenges across disciplines. Based in San Francisco, he combines hands-on making with cognitive neuroscience insights to create engaging, educational, and scalable experiences.
