Jan Pearce is a seasoned computer science educator and architect of Berea College's CIS program, founding the major and serving as its inaugural department chair. A 2022 Fulbright Scholar, she champions collaborative, open-source–minded learning and applies process-oriented guided inquiry-based learning (POGIL) to strengthen student self-efficacy. Based in Berea, Kentucky, she has devoted more than three decades to curriculum design, mentorship, and strategic faculty hiring and divisional development. She leveraged data analytics to map divisional structures, built a college-wide mentoring program, and led the establishment of six divisional learning communities. Her work unifies curricular innovation with practical leadership, turning ambitious visions into scalable programs that empower students to build tools for a better world.
