Alex Cui is a technology leader in autonomous-vehicle perception, currently Tech Lead - Perception at Tensor Auto in New York. With nine years of experience, he blends research rigor with hands-on software engineering to deliver end-to-end perception pipelines—onboard integration, sensor fusion, and deep-learning models for lane and vehicle detection in video streams. He previously helped scale perception capabilities at Tensor Auto as the second perception engineer, advancing lidar segmentation, small-object detectors, and multi-sensor tracking, and deploying models in TensorRT for production use. His multidisciplinary training spans a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and an MS from Columbia University, plus nanoscience work at The University of Tokyo and research fellowships, enabling a unique cross-disciplinary approach to AI products. He has also mentored peers in Udacity’s self-driving car programs, reflecting a track record of translating complex concepts into practical, accessible technology. Based in New York, he is passionate about turning AI research into products that bring autonomous capabilities to everyday people.
