Leigh Carmody is a seasoned research data steward and scientific curator with over eight years of experience in creating and managing controlled vocabularies and ontologies within the life sciences, and a talent for translating complex concepts into usable guidance for diverse audiences. She currently serves as Research Data Steward Manager at GSK, where she establishes data standards on the Onyx platform and maintains metadata accuracy to support data discovery and interoperability. Previously, as an Information Scientist at NIEHS, she led collaborations to implement data standards, support data infrastructure and pipelines, and champion FAIR data principles for environmental health datasets. At The Jackson Laboratory, she managed metadata for projects, evaluated AI/LLM tools for clinical annotations, and contributed to Cerebral Palsy variant discovery and Medical Action Ontology initiatives, including conference presentations.
