Cyrill Stachniss is a Full Professor at the University of Bonn and Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford who leads the Photogrammetry and Robotics Lab, developing probabilistic state-estimation, machine learning and AI methods for perception, SLAM and autonomous navigation. He has authored over 250 publications, served as senior editor of IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters and associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics, and is a Microsoft Research Faculty Fellow and recipient of the 2013 IEEE RAS Early Career Award. His research bridges service, agricultural and automotive robotics and he spearheads the DFG PhenoRob cluster connecting robotics to sustainable crop phenotyping. He has translated research into impact through coordinating projects like ROVINA—using robots to digitize Roman catacombs—and by cofounding three startups, demonstrating a consistent focus on turning advanced algorithms into deployed systems.
