Wooyoung Moon is a machine learning engineer and researcher who blends physics and biology with applied ML across ad tech, infrastructure, and startup building. Based in San Francisco, he currently contributes as a Machine Learning Engineer at Instagram and Meta, focusing on causal inference, uplift modeling, and scalable ML systems. He previously led Greenhouse Software's ML function with an emphasis on deep learning, LLMs, and MLOps, and co-founded The Archive Company, where he owned backend platforms for two photo/video apps and managed a distributed engineering team backed by investors including FirstMark and Serena Ventures. His career also includes an Applied Scientist role at AWS researching genomics-focused LLMs and a Data Science Engineer role at Redfin, where he built a property tagging system and helped drive GCP adoption. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a ScB in Physics from Brown University, and is known for turning rigorous scientific thinking into practical production-ready ML solutions—and he enjoys basketball in his spare time.
