Gavin Chait is a multidisciplinary data scientist, engineer, economist and author who leads data-driven product development and research into data collection, analysis, release and governance. He is based in Marseille and currently serves as Honorary Principal Research Fellow at UCL and Director of Open Data Consulting and Data Science at Whythawk, guiding data-driven projects for governments and international organizations. His work spans open data infrastructure and socio-economic development across Africa for the World Bank, WHO and regional governments, including Edo State, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana and Mauritius. He created openLocal.uk, a quarterly-updated commercial location database, and qwyre.com, an ereader and collaborative publishing platform for creative fiction. A lifelong explorer of the frontiers of human progress, he blends hands-on software engineering with macro-level policy insight, fuelled by coffee.
