A closer look at our Stack Overflow integration

Our latest update brings in developer activity from one of the largest coding communities online.

Stack Overflow is the world’s largest developer knowledge base, where engineers troubleshoot issues, share solutions, and shape industry best practices. With over 24 million questions and a more than 22 million user community, it’s a key indicator of technical expertise and emerging trends in software development.

What info from Stack Overflow you can see on Prog.AI:

Reputation score – A rough measure of how much a developer has contributed and how useful their answers have been. Higher reputation generally means more engagement in helping others.

Number of answers and questions – Some developers are deep problem-solvers, answering hundreds of questions. Others ask tough questions that push boundaries. Both tell you something.

Technology-specific rankings – Instead of just saying they "know Java" or "work with Docker," you can see if they’re in the top 1% or top 5% in certain tags, based on how the community rates their contributions.

Total reach – Some developers have indirectly helped millions just by writing great answers. That’s an interesting metric if you're looking for highly influential engineers.

Badges and special achievements – Beyond reputation, users earn specific badges for expertise, consistency, and exceptional contributions. This can highlight developers who are particularly strong in certain areas.

Time-based activity – You can get an idea of how consistently active a developer has been over time. Some have been engaging for a decade, while others made a burst of contributions and then went quiet.

Niche expertise visibility – Certain skills and technologies don’t have a large GitHub presence but thrive in Q&A discussions. This integration helps surface experts in areas that might otherwise be harder to track.

The integration also works in our Chrome extension. While you browse the Stack Overflow website, you get enriched Prog.AI data about developers, combining insights from GitHub, Kaggle, LinkedIn, and more. And with the extension, you can bulk-download the profiles you see on-screen into a CSV file or Google Spreadsheet for easy sourcing.

This data is now live and searchable. If you haven't checked it out yet, now’s a good time.
